Design Your Life on Purpose, with Ameera Virani
A life-design coach on why intentional living is a responsibility, the nervous-system “internal thermostat,” work-life harmony over balance, the time audit, and the fear of being fully seen.
This week on the Unscripted Small Business Podcast, host Jeremy Rivera sits down with Ameera Virani, host of The Designed Life. Ameera spent two decades producing the stages for icons like Wayne Dyer, Bob Proctor, Tony Robbins, and Robin Sharma before building her own practice coaching women to design their lives on purpose — across health, business, wealth, relationships, and joy.
Designing a Life on Purpose
Ameera opens with a claim that reframes the whole conversation: designing your life isn’t a luxury you get to in a slower season — it’s a responsibility you carry every day you wake up. Her coaching work starts by getting exceptionally clear on what a client truly desires, then aligning that with their values and the beliefs they carry.
From the Episode
Ameera Virani: Designing your life is not just your first priority, it’s your responsibility.
You’re a Creature of Habit
The most common pitfall she sees — especially in midlife women wanting something different — is deviating back to the familiar from a subconscious layer. The work is to surface those loops and interrupt them, then stack a better habit at the trigger point (her example: move the phone out of the bedroom so it’s the fifth thing you do in the morning, not the first).
“We tend to do the same things over and over again, but then we expect a different result and wonder why we’re not getting that.” — Ameera Virani
Why Success Can Feel Unsafe: The Internal Thermostat
Drawing on Tony Robbins, Ameera notes we’ll do more to avoid pain than to gain pleasure — so we wait until things are dire to change. And when success climbs past anything familiar, the nervous system reads it as unsafe and quietly pulls us back. She calls it the internal thermostat, and the way through is to build safety one habit at a time.
“It’s not just in the doing, it’s in the becoming of someone who can hold the type of change and success that you desire.” — Ameera Virani
Balance Is a Myth — Aim for Harmony
Ameera calls work-life balance “a bit of a myth that we’ve been sold.” Balance implies two separate lives, and technology dissolved that line the moment work started traveling in our pockets. She offers harmony instead — a rhythm that flexes with the season. For founders especially, some seasons demand more and others give time back.
The Time Audit
On time, she’s blunt, and it’s the line people remember. Her antidote is a time audit: put your week on paper and see honestly where the hours go, then automate, delegate, or set aside whatever isn’t moving you toward what you say you want.
“No one ever looked back on their deathbed and said, I wish I had spent more time at work.”
— Ameera Virani, The Designed Life
The Fear of Being Fully Seen
The deepest struggle she works with — and the one most relevant to why founders under-market themselves — is the fear of being fully seen. Not stages or social media, but being known as who you truly are and what you’re here to do. Fear of judgment, rejection, and rocking the boat for the people you love keeps capable people in the version of themselves that’s comfortable for everyone else. If your marketing is inconsistent, this is often the real reason.
“When you’re busy, you stop marketing. When you stop marketing, you stop being busy. That’s not a sales problem. That’s a systems problem.” — Rachel Minion on the founder cycle Ameera’s mindset work sits underneath.
