“We saw a vast amount of complacency within the market. That’s why we started EZDC.” — Dave Gulas

Dave Gulas spent 20 years in pharmaceutical sales before co-founding EZDC 3PL. His competitive advantage wasn’t a technology breakthrough or a novel business model — it was customer service done consistently well in an industry that had stopped bothering.

The Graduation Point

E-commerce brands reach a moment when self-fulfillment stops making sense. Orders are going out the door, but so is the founder’s time. Shipping mistakes are eroding reviews. The warehouse is consuming hours that should be going to product and marketing.

That’s the graduation point. A good 3PL partner — with warehouse management systems that connect directly to Shopify or WooCommerce — makes the operational complexity disappear on the merchant’s side. The right time to make that move is before the mistakes become visible to customers, not after.

Saying No to Customers

The hardest early lesson at EZDC: saying yes to the wrong clients. Poor-fit relationships — wrong volume, wrong complexity, wrong expectations — consumed disproportionate resources and damaged team morale.

The discipline of asking harder questions upfront, and being honest about whether you’re the right partner for a given situation, is a skill that costs money when it’s absent. Dave now sees turning down poor-fit clients as one of the most important things that’s made the business stronger.

Bootstrap vs. Funded: The Butterfly Principle

A butterfly that’s helped out of its cocoon can’t fly. The struggle of emerging builds the wing strength it needs to survive. Dave applies the same logic to entrepreneurship: companies that receive significant funding early can skip the hard, constraint-driven decisions that build resilient businesses. Patience and daily consistency — showing up and doing the work without investor pressure — often produces more durable companies than the funded growth sprint model.

Personal Brand in B2B

People do business with people. Faceless, nameless brands are losing ground — especially in B2B, where trust is the primary purchase driver. Dave hosts the Beyond Fulfillment Podcast as a direct channel for demonstrating expertise, building relationships, and making EZDC feel human to prospects who haven’t yet made contact. That content compounds in a way paid advertising doesn’t.
