How I Broke the Consulting Grind Cycle to Find $100K in Hidden Profit
Rachel Minion of Rockstar and Moon on RevOps, automation, and helping consultants stop hustling and start scaling.
I’m Rachel Minion, head rock star at Rockstar and Moon โ a RevOps organization built for B2B consultants who keep getting stuck in the mud. I sat down with host Zaneta Chuniq Inpower on Unscripted Small Business to talk about why so many great consultants stay the best-kept secret in their market, and what it takes to break out of the loop.
From my start in my family’s printing company through marketing roles at Verizon Wireless and Ticketmaster, I learned to take big corporate strategies and bring them down into tangible things any small business owner can actually do. Here’s what we covered.
The Grind Cycle That Doesn’t Need to Happen
The number one thing that stalls consultants isn’t talent โ it’s the loop. You hustle to fill the pipeline, land clients, pour yourself into delivery, and then look up to find the pipeline’s dry. So you start over. It’s a hustle cycle that doesn’t need to happen, and it doesn’t need to fully depend on you.
“We call it a grind cycle that they get stuck in. You go, you go, you go, you’re grinding, and you get all these new prospects in the door and your pipeline fills up. And then you start booking clients. So you move to client delivery and you’re working so hard to please that client, get them that win, do all the things that you know you can do, and then your pipeline’s dry. So we start it again and we go back to the beginning. And it’s this hustle cycle that doesn’t need to happen.” โ Rachel Minion
“As long as you’re B2B, we are able to help you, and we have the formulas and the frameworks and the strategies for you.” โ Rachel Minion
The Profit Multiplier: At Least $100K Hiding in the Business
Every client I meet is amazing but stuck โ and when they finally get a big win, they immediately go chase the next client instead of celebrating that win and building a case study around it. The Profit Multiplier program fixes those problems, layers in automations, and does more with less, so consultants can find at least $100,000 in profit already sitting in their business.
“We have put together an entire program that is based on fixing these problems, as well as adding in automations, as well as doing more with less so that consultants can find at least $100,000 in profit in their business.” โ Rachel Minion
“We had a client just tell us that he is 42% year over year increase in revenue. And we have a couple months left in the year. I can’t wait to see where that’s going to end.” โ Rachel Minion
Perfect Is the Enemy of Momentum
We all want it to be perfect. But perfectionism is a self-induced bottleneck โ the “one more time, Control-Z, start over” spiral that turns a 15-minute task into an hour. Hustling harder on an untested idea won’t get you there. Get it live, get real-world data, and then optimize.
“Until we have real world data, just get it live. Just get momentum. Just see how it’s landing. Because if you wait until it’s perfect, you’ve already missed the bus.” โ Rachel Minion
“Let’s just get it out there, see what sells, now let’s keep going, add that all into a workflow and a system, and then we play and we optimize.” โ Rachel Minion
From Printing Presses to RevOps
I started in the world of printing at my parents’ company. Within a few months, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, and I stepped in to run the organization โ getting thrown into building an ERP system and online ordering when that was still new. A small shop pushing up to 1,200 estimates a day taught me I had a passion for getting in front of a problem and just solving it. Later, in marketing, I realized I’m not a corporate person at all.
“It has been the best experience and the craziest experience all at once, because as a small printing company, we did maybe 400 to 800 estimates a day, sometimes 1,200 estimates a day, because they want all the different versions of everything.” โ Rachel Minion
“That’s where I’m taking all those larger corporate strategies and bringing them down into tangible things that any small business owner can do.” โ Rachel Minion
Automating 80% of a Lost Role in Three Weeks
June was terrible: I lost my project manager of three years โ the glue that held everything together. My husband challenged me to automate 80% of the role and keep the valuable 20% myself. For three weeks, 3 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, I did my job plus hers, automating piece by piece and validating each step. Now a note taker auto-creates tasks from every call, and my team hears it straight from the client’s mouth.
“My husband challenged me and he said, what if you automate 80% of a role? Could you do the other 20% that actually has value?” โ Rachel Minion
“I think the biggest key is just interconnectivity, because when everything is a separate system, you then have to manually work to go put it all together. And no one wants to do that.” โ Rachel Minion
Make the Client the Hero
The top green flag for a consultant on the path to something big: you have to talk about your success. You may not name the company, but you can say you helped a client sell more in one quarter than in the entire prior year. And the reframe that makes it comfortable is simple โ the story isn’t about you.
“The stories aren’t necessarily about us. So don’t think you’re talking about yourself. We are making the client the hero. Because in the end, if the client’s the hero and we’re showcasing all the challenges they went through and then here’s this big win, it means anybody else in that same situation feels like they can achieve it.” โ Rachel Minion
“Why not talk about that transformation? And I think that is the ultimate key as the green flag โ is you want those successes.” โ Rachel Minion
The Ripple Effect of Small Business
I’m the biggest fan of small business โ I grew up in it. Our goal is to help 100 small businesses double by 2029, because doubling a business doesn’t just enrich the owner. It affects their kids, their community, the little league down the street, and the local nonprofits. That’s the ripple effect big corporations don’t replicate.
“We have a goal to help 100 small businesses double by 2029. And we’re on our path to do so.” โ Rachel Minion
“It affects their kids, it affects their community, and it’s that ripple effect, right? You have the little league down the street, you have all these different nonprofits that can generate.” โ Rachel Minion
