“I’m not that smart of a guy. These are just stupid things that I have stumbled on over 21 years and realized that business people sometimes are stupid.” โ Bill Kasko
“When you start doing the opposite of everybody else, it will work.” โ Bill Kasko
“AI makes us lazy. And that’s what concerns me. It concerns me that we’re not using our minds enough still.” โ Bill Kasko
Key Takeaways
- The Costanza Principle works. Doing the opposite of industry standards โ inverted sales-to-recruiter ratio, transparent pricing โ created durable competitive advantages.
- Customer convenience beats business convenience. Offering 24/7 scheduling and weekend calls has been a differentiator for 21 years because most competitors still won’t do it.
- Honesty converts better than overselling. Being upfront about timelines and challenges builds trust faster than making promises you’ll have to walk back.
- The search landscape is fragmenting. Success now requires presence across Google, Bing, TikTok, Reddit, and YouTube โ not just one primary channel.
A Seinfeld Episode as Business Strategy
Bill Kasko: I looked at the staffing and recruiting industry and said โ what is everybody doing wrong? And then I just did the opposite. We published our pricing. Transparent. On the website. Every competitor told us that was insane. We also flipped the typical ratio โ most agencies have far more salespeople than recruiters. We put the weight on the recruiter side, because quality of match matters more than volume of sales calls. Both “wrong” decisions turned out to be right.
